Clip #10 - Very wobbly clip of Clancy on a recall. Well  done Clancy (all all the other puppies who think they are called Clancy).Turn the volume down before you click or my dulcet tones might deafen you.

Once a name has been confirmed we are now trying to get the puppy to respond to its new name. So Ioury (Red), Ixo (Pink), Clancy (Spot). will be being called by name now.

Pimped up Clancy….or is it primped ;-)

Yesterday, Clancy was not happy with me shampooing him and he really hated the hairdryer. However, being a forgiving chap, he agreed to be manipulated by a funny lady today.  He wasn’t sure why she wanted him to eat cake – but hey – he’s a cool guy and if a lady asks nicely……

SONY DSC

Obliging this obviously deranged lady, he allowed himself to be posed in various positions for no apparent reason and since the cake had been replaced by a bit of cheese – why not!
SONY DSCAt 5 weeks, it seemed mean to try and get him to stand properly, but we had a go anyway.

The reasons that a puppy is stacked is to look at angulation, back and profile, head, neck chest. Its not just for showing and being prissy but to see how he conforms and whether there might be weaknesses or strengths. He will probably put on nearly 3 kilos in the next few weeks, so things will change! “Hopefully the mad woman won’t be forcing cake down me at the same time as pulling my tail”

Here come the boys – or at least three of them

We ave been trying to stack the boys  - with varying degrees of failure. Clancy we will try in the next few days. However, he was so upset with his wash and blow dry today we left him to sulk with the girls. He luckily forgot his outrage and came to play a few minutes later.

Poppy is becoming a little LADY….

Poppy is starting to lose her fluffy puppy look  - she is now 14 weeks old. When she arrived she was a small bundle, calm and placid and very lovely.

She of course is still very lovely, but the tutoring given by Jasper the Red Setter has rubbed off on her and she has turned slightly loopy. She is in chasse mood at the moment, but her idea  of chasse seems to be hunting anything she can eat or more to the point anything she thinks she can eat. Please believe me, she is fed very well, three times a day and she still looks at me as if I have been starving her.

She loves visiting the pups, its usually a fight between Effie and her as to who can get through the door first – awww how sweet I hear you say. Not a bit of it, those two gannets are only thinking of their stomachs. It is a sure bet that the pups will have left something on the floor that one or the other of them will think is a delicacy from heaven. Needless to say all the dogs will be wormed tomorrow

I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned the Sun.

Well – that sunny day was it, two days of rainy weather. I’m beginning to think I live in the UK – grey skies, wind and rain…not great.

Yesterday was a little fraught with three of the pups having diarrhoea (Pink, Green and The Bis), so a long day making sure they were hydrated, temperature checked, regularly cuddled and regular bleaching of everything (puppies excluded), that was the order of my day. By 5pm yesterday, all had recovered and were eating again. But they need a bath – all of them. And so I suspect do I, it doesn’t matter how much I wash, I smell not so subtly of eau de puppypiss, with a hint of lemon bleach, my hands have been bleached dry and I’ll soon have hands like a motorway navvy. It’s one of those smells, like chip fat, or cigarettes – it lingers……

So pictures from the evening after feeding – so yellow light and yellow food all over them…

The weaning process is going well, they love to see Effie and are very efficient at milking her within 10 minutes, but they love their solid food as well. Effie has taken to whimpering outside their room demanding to get in to see them as her time with them is now being restricted.

I am not so happy, because they are such messy eaters, they splatter the walls, floors, each other and turn everything slightly yellow. Today, as per instructions from the vet, they were given steak hache (raw) – she is a firm believer that they need raw meat at least once a week in addition to the Royal Canin puppy croquettes they have normally.

Miss Green, a very refined type normally – wolfed it down, whilst a few of the boys weren’t convinced straight away.

All the pups are over 3 kilos now, and seriously hairy and lively. They all got a brush today, some enjoyed it more than others. Red and Pink kept coming back to be re-brushed. Miss Green hated it as did The Bis. Clancy (the pup formerly know as Spot) liked to be brushed as long as his head wasn’t touched. I will need to cut their claws again this week (third time since their birth) and they will have their second worming on Tuesday.

Monday movies.

It’s great fun with the pups now, they are full of fun, and very cheeky. They enjoy nibbling my trouser legs and will come and give me a cuddle….I suspect more in search of food that anything.

They have grown so much that I have had to change their collars:

Changes = Miss Light Blue – is now silver,

Mr Orange – is now pink.

Spot doesn’t have a collar, because he already has distinguishing features ;-)

The weather is abysmal, so the pups cannot go outside. Poppy is being a little more gentle with the pups and they fight back – they have sharp little teeth. They are practising biting each other and learning when they have gone too far…

They all need a good bath, I hope we will get some nicer days so I can get them dry easily if not it will be the hair drier again – they aren’t so keen on that.

Easter Sunday – and some sweeties appear!

I’m not sure what they are eating, but they seem to have grown overnight, they are starting to become balls of fur and they are cheeky with it.

They have taken well to the potty mat, and we have had more hits than misses and their sleeping area had not been peed on – Hooray! They also managed to get all their poops on the mat, rather than over the floor. A few find it more difficult than others. Mr Orange is particularly good as is Miss Green. I think I need to “get a life” – such excitement about puppy pee isn’t a good sign……

All are healthy, eating well and playing as they should be.

Hugo the Highlander – what a pair of lips – Mick jagger would be jealous ;-)

It is always great to see how the pups progress, Hugo is from  last years litter from Chorale and Cheek to Cheek Blue Dream. He is only a teenager, lets hope the his  family don’t have to put up with the terrible teens stage ;-)  many thanks to  teh Isler family.

The sun is shining – and the pups have moved out of the whelping box

After a pretty miserable week, the sun has started to shine and it feels like spring.

The pups are now out of their whelping box and have more freedom to roam – safely. They still sleep a huge amount of time, but when  they wake to eat and pee, they also play more. Its mainly play fighting, raid/wobbly sprints and growling and barking randomly.

They now have a pee mat, that I will start placing them on as soon as they look like peeing – and hopefully it will become a good habit quickly – so they do not eliminate on their bedding. Orange got it right first time this morning – perhaps it was just chance ;-)

Well they have done well today, they seem to have more or less got the concept of peeing on the puppy pad – a few misses, but not bad for the first day.

Dolly Bolly’s taken to water

Mum has been training Dolly for her TAN. The one outstanding items was for her to retrieve a dummy from water. Dolly likes water – we know this as she is constantly jumping in th canal. But would she swim in a lake that is another matter.

So here is a picture of Dolly’s first swim retrieve – elegant it ain’t but at least she did it.

Day 20 Photos and Video of Pups

The pups are getting around more, still wobbly on their legs, but trying out their voices. Blue has been growling and barking at absolutely nothing and the others have been squeaking and woofing randomly.

They can now hear and see and they have voracious appetites, not matched by their table manners. Their favourite game seems to be food surfing and from the photos you can see that a food wrap is a la mode in this household. The yellow colour is wholly artificial and is their puppy food and not their coat colour (with exception probably of Spot)

Effie quite enjoys it, as she has the chance to lick the food off them and she won’t let that opportunity to eat escape her. Effie is producing huge amounts of milk, but these pups are more than a match for her. We have started allowing Effie out during the day, so we can start the weaning process. The pups are taken outside (if its warm enough) each day now and they play together, usually  Poppy comes to babysit (Effie is nervously waiting nearby).

The pups sleep for long periods of time and have short bursts of activity, as they get a little older they sleep a little less and become much more adventurous.

Day 19 Videos

Hello everyone – sorry for not posting yesterday.

Today, the puppies seemed to have expanded and started to become real little dogs. Effie is now struggling to keep up with their appetites and they aren’t exactly gentle with her.

With the warm weather, the pups have had their first bit of natural sunlight.

They are looking like they may escape the whelping pen, by next week we will have to remove the whelping pen. They are feeding and peeing machines at the moment.

They had their first solid meal today and all of them tucked in……the mess was unbelievable.

Miss Purple and Spot decided to revel in the meal and rolled in it – oh what debauched pups they are.

There are some snippets of video – usual warnings on my ineptitude  as a videographer remain. Enjoy……
