Well they keep on growing – and we now starting to see their individual characters coming out. The most boisterous are Orange, Purple and Blue. Miss Green is a gentle soul, but confident and friendly. Yellow is very friendly and always rushes to say hello, Pink also but not so confident as Lottie.
Evie is really struggling to keep her weight up – she is hungry all the time. We have increased the puppy solids and decreased her time feeding the pups – but its hard for Evie, she just loves being a Mum and she is driving me crazy trying to get into the pups to feed them, then 10 minutes later desperately needing to escape them.
Popeye and Poppy love the new additions – Popeye isn’t sure what to do with them, but thinks they look like fun or perhaps scooby snacks. Poppy is madam laid back – she lets them climb over her and doesn’t twitch….such a laid back girl. Evie isn’t so keen on Popeye near the pups (do dogs do telepathy?)
Jasper – the red setter has made himself scarce – he doesn’t seem keen on pups until they are about 8 weeks and he can play with them without getting savaged by Mum. Chorale, thinks all the pups are hers and has been trying to steal them off Evie – a few tense moments, say no more!
A few pictures throughout the week
The puppies are now nearly 4 weeks old… they are big monsters now, eyes open, ears cocked and teeth pushing through the gums. They are exhausting poor Evie, she now has to come away from them to get a bit of a rest. They have just started eating small amounts of solids and luckily everything seems to have gone well (weaning is another danger time for pups, where problems in the digestive systems can become evident). Tuesday they will have their second worming and the next 4 weeks will be a flurry of boisterous pups and piles of poo! ;-( Evie will pretty soon give up on her maternal cleaning duties – seems fair, there is only so much a girl can stomach.
