Why is it that whelping always seems to be a drama! Poor Evie started her labour on Monday, but still hadn’t produced any pups 24 hours later. So with a vet’s strike pending and no further progress in her labour we took a reluctant decision to have a caesarean. Thankfully with hindsight it proved to be the correct decision for both pups and Mum.
Evie is a lovely, calm but energetic dog (if that doesn’t seem a bit contradictory). She has a very sweet temperament and is an excellent family dog – not that that stops her from hunting moles, chickens etc… She is lovely to walk with off the lead and a total nightmare on the lead – but hey life ain’t perfect.
Evie’s boyfriend was Elliot (Zampanzer Step by Step) a very handsome chap, he lives in Spain and so in September Evie and I went to visit him. Evie did her best to deflate his ardor, with some timely growls and staging a sit down whenever he approached. However, success ensued and Evie became pregnant.
Elliot is a very gentle and affectionate chappy, he has a very soft character and Paco his owner clearly has a very good relationship with him. Elliot is also a distinguished lad and is an International Multi Champion (Portugal, Spain and Gibralter). A handsome Golden, who has already produced some lovely pups.
Anyway in a miserable howling storm, Evie produced 2 boys and 6 girls. Despite it being her first litter and the discomfort of a Caesarian she has proved to be an excellent and conscientious mum.
The puppies were born a good size and have grown very well in the last few days, they range in colour from creme to dark golden -so something for everybody
